Food Day 2015 is coming, are you ready for it? What’s Food Day you ask? Every year on October 24, the Center for Science in the Public Interest sponsors a nationwide celebration of real, healthy food, sustainable farm practices, and campaigns for better food policies. A main goal of Food Day is to help people “Eat Real” by cutting back on sugar-laden drinks, salty processed foods, factory farmed meats and restaurant food in order to eat more local fruits and vegetables, whole grains and sustainably-raised protein. I’m honored to be part of the Food Day Blogger Takeover whose mission is

This recipe for Sweet & Salty Cereal Treats has a special place in my heart because it was the first recipe that we prepared together in our new kitchen in the burbs. We’ve been working hard on and, dare I say, perfecting it since we moved and we’re finally ready to share it with you. Eliana and I made this recipe many times for #WeCookWednesday in order to get it “right.” On Wednesdays, Eliana and I make whatever she wants to make. Learn more about that kitchen tradition here. Before I share our recipe,

I strapped her into her carrier, plopped her onto the very wide counter while she was stuck in her Bumbo seat or even let her sit on the floor with floor with some of her “own” tools to use. As she has gotten older, her involvement in the cooking process has evolved from an engaged observer to an actively involved helper and recipe creator. This foodie mama is so proud

I love that this recipe is totally customizable to the tastes and dietary preferences or restrictions of your family. We use unsweetened cocoa powder so we can control the amount of sugar in this recipe but you can adjust the amounts of cocoa and syrup to your liking when making this recipe with your own teeny tiny foodie. Don’t forget that you can use the “Print this Post” button in the top right corner to print this free recipe. Add it

So, then how did THIS happen? I know, I know. This is what all parents say. Anyway, last year when Eliana was in preschool she went for two full-days per week and was home with me for the other three. So, unless we had an early activity, we could be lazy and take a little longer to get out the door if we so chose. My husband had to get up and

Just in time for back to school, I’m sharing an easy make-ahead breakfast recipe that will make your morning routine a little easier: Peaches & Cream Overnight Oats. Overnight oats is one of my most favorite fast and easy make-ahead breakfasts. I love that you just toss all the ingredients into an air-tight container and leave it for at least 6 hours (or overnight) and your breakfast is ready to go! This is also a perfect recipe for a young sous chef

I’m sure in just a matter of months I’ll feel settled and really love this massive change we’ve made. But for now, moving from a rented apartment in the neighborhood in Brooklyn where I spent the last 10+ years to owning a house in a new town in the suburbs has been hard. First, my mom and I spent a solid week unpacking boxes. (My mom equals Rockstar Unpacker by the

Smoothies are a perfect example—they are delicious, filled with fruit and veggies and can be on the table in minutes. For this Blueberry Avocado Smoothie Bowl, I put together ingredients that contain cancer-fighting antioxidants and healthy fats that promote heart health and reduce blood pressure. To Eliana, this is a delicious breakfast that feels like she is eating ice cream. To me, it’s a

I know what you’re thinking: washing your hands isn’t a “recipe”, so what’s up? We created this recipe because clean hands are a chef’s most important tool. When our teeny tiny sous chefs are helping us in the kitchen, it’s especially essential that they have extra clean hands. Just think for a moment about all the things those teeny tiny hands touch in the span of a few minutes. Kind of gross, right? Yeah, those little hands need a good scrubbing! So go ahead and

We experimented with these cookies quite a few times while trying to get the recipe “just right.” While we were making these cookies most recently, Eliana was inspired to create an impromptu video with tips about squeezing “wemons” (lemons) and the importance of a strainer. The evolution of this teeny tiny sous chef and her creativity in the kitchen completely amazes me. I’m so proud of her. Her lesson is now the latest video in our collection of 2 Minute Tips. Check them out on our YouTube channel!

I get an idea for something I want to make but try after try, after try I can’t get it “right.” So, I take a break and walk away from that recipe for a while to clear my head and hopefully gain inspiration for how to fix it. Today’s Monday Meal, Lemon Dusted Coconut Cookies, is one of those recipes. Eliana and I began working on this recipe in December and almost 6 months later, we (finally) nailed it. Woohoo! I LOVE these cookies and so does Eliana. (Though, to be honest, I’m

Second, smoothies can be customized to include any fruits, veggies or milk you want based on your preferences. (See the end of the recipe where we included a few of our favorite variations.)
