While she never stopped eating them when they were mashed up and hidden in foods like banana bread or oatmeal she had been flat out refusing them on their own. This was super frustrating because for nearly her first year of eating solid foods, she devoured bananas whenever they were offered to her. A photo from February 2012: As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, when a your little

They are quick, healthy and easy. A perfect snack! And, a curious toddler can even help out with the preparation by helping to wash the kale, tearing it into small pieces and mixing it with olive oil and spices before baking it. See below the photos for my recipe for Kale Chips. Assuming she doesn’t eat all of the ingredients before you can

Eliana would nap, we’d head out to a nearby play space and then come home for lunch and more playing. Well, things didn’t quite happen that way. Instead, Eliana didn’t nap because her teeth were killing her. Then it became clear that getting out to go anywhere wasn’t going to happen because she was so overtired that she couldn’t see straight. Needless to say, there was

One thing my colleagues and I always did when planning a unit of study was to think about how we could give students a variety of experiences, across disciplines, around a topic. So, that’s what I’m doing now with my classroom of one-Eliana, the teeny tiny foodie. Now, let me clarify and say that I have not set up my own little (pre)school here and I don’t take Eliana through a series of lessons for reading,

This post contains overly processed food, BPA and PVC-filled plastics and a shudder-worthy amount of germs. Consider yourself warned. Before I travel I have to write down my “packing list.” I’m famous for making packing lists that include silly things like “this note pad” and presumably obvious things like “shoes.” (Really? Would I actually forget to pack shoes??) My list hasn’t changed so much over the years so you’d think I’d be logical about it

Personally, I feel like any time I “figure something out” such as a nap schedule, what a certain gesture or grunt means, or how to deal with a tantrum, everything changes and my “go to” moves no longer work. I usually get about ten days to two weeks of feeling like “I got this” before it all implodes in my face. Sigh. But, this is not a Mommy Venting about How Hard Parenting Is type o’ blog. So, I will change the

Here are the changes I made to the recipe: · Instead of 1½ cups of all-purpose flour, I used 1 cup of whole-wheat flour and ½ cup of all-purpose flour. · I only had 1 banana so instead of 2 bananas and 1 medium apple, I used 1 banana and 1 large Crispin apple. The apple was really juicy so I added the juice to the wet ingredients
