Read More »If you’ve been reading teeny tiny foodie regularly, then you probably know that since last January, when Eliana began eating solid foods, I’ve been working on making her a teeny tiny foodie. (Well, duh! It’s the name of the website). I think there are many pieces to this process, and one of them is for a little foodie to be involved in shopping for the groceries, whether they come from the grocery store, the farmer’s market or corner deli. It is especially fun when Eliana accompanies me on our weekly Sunday trip to the farmer’s market. Our farmer’s market is right

This post contains overly processed food, BPA and PVC-filled plastics and a shudder-worthy amount of germs. Consider yourself warned. Before I travel I have to write down my “packing list.” I’m famous for making packing lists that include silly things like “this note pad” and presumably obvious things like “shoes.” (Really? Would I actually forget to pack shoes??) My list hasn’t changed so much over the years so you’d think I’d be logical about it

I’m not suggesting that we count calories for our babies and toddlers or take out the measuring cups to enact portion control. But, I do believe that we should expose our kids to lots of fruits and vegetables from the very beginning so they grow up with a taste for these healthy foods. And, given that the latest data reports that 17% of America’s children are considered “obese,” I don’t think this is a problem
Read More »I think we can all agree that this whole parenting thing is beautiful, amazing and hard as sh!t. Personally, I feel like any time I “figure something out” such as a nap schedule, what a certain gesture or grunt means, or how to deal with a tantrum, everything changes and my “go to” moves no longer work. I usually get about ten days to two weeks of feeling like “I got this” before it all implodes in my face. Sigh. But, this is not a Mommy Venting about How Hard Parenting Is type o’ blog. So, I will change the
Read More »One of our family traditions is to go apple picking every year. For years, Matt and I would go on a weekend in the fall and load up on apples. We’ve continued that tradition with Eliana. Here are photos from her inaugural trip to the farm last year. Don’t worry, we didn’t let her drive. Apple picking October 2011 This year she was able to be a lot more involved in the picking! Click here for a video of her picking an apple. Another family tradition: A photo of Eliana “driving.” Taking a snack break. Family Fun! Coming home with
Read More »The Good Along the way on our food adventures, there have been a lot of fun and many funny times to account for “The Good.” Especially after I revised my outlook the other night. (See: The Bad-Revisited.) What has made this adventure fun is: creating recipes for her to eat, the ways in which she reacts to eating, and watching her get excited about food. It is also especially gratifying to see her like something now that she didn’t like before. Steamed carrots were not a huge hit the first time she had them a month or two ago. Last

I have no real rhyme or reason. I did purposefully make her applesauce on her 6-month birthday as her first “solid” because she loves apples. I thought that would be a fun way to start. I didn’t really think about that initial stage of pushing everything back out of her mouth because she had no idea what to do with
Read More »As I understand it, there are many different views and opinions on how to introduce a baby to solid foods. I think of the two main camps as “old school” and “new age.” Based on my unofficial research among my “New Mommy Friends”, your camp has to do with your own opinion/comfort level and your pediatrician. Our pediatrician is from the “new age” camp and that works just fine for me. Yep. That’s a pickle. At Eliana’s 4-month check-up, our pediatrician told us to let Eliana lick or taste basically anything we were eating. Yep, anything. All those things we
Read More »Thanks for visiting teeny tiny foodie. My daughter, Eliana, just turned 7 months old and we’ve been doing the solid food thing for a few weeks. Each day I *attempt* to feed her two different “solids” twice a day. Attempt because there are days it happens and days it doesn’t. We all have goals, right? I took the year off from work to stay home with the little lady and since I like to cook, I’m a bit of a food snob, and (I’ll confess) a control freak, I’m making all her food. So far, at least.
