Review: Curious Chef 6 Piece Fruit & Veggie Prep Kit

Eliana and I were given the 6 Piece Fruit and Veggie Prep Kit from Curious Chef to review. All opinions are my own.

Recently, Eliana and I received some new tools from Curious Chef. They gave us their 6-Piece Fruit and Veggie Prep Kit to test out and we love them! Eliana is thrilled to have “her own tools” which look similar to mine but on a smaller scale so they accommodate the hands of little chefs. I love that these tools are attractive and sturdy. I’m sure they will last us years!

To be honest, in a pinch, I occasionally use the tools, too!

Some of the tools by Curious Chef were a little easier for Eliana to manage than others. She’s 3½ years old and a petite child at that. Her hands are not incredibly big and her arm strength isn’t that great, so sometimes even using tools “made for children” is still a bit of a challenge. Her ability to manipulate different tools and objects is something she is still working on, as well. The tools by Curious Chef are very sturdy and are smaller and easier to grip for a young chef than the handles of my grown-up tools. This makes for safer, more comfortable practice for Eliana. For example, using a vegetable peeler is a bit of a challenge. Eliana is still figuring out how to hold the vegetable properly and angle the peeler while also moving the peeler in the proper motion to actually peel the vegetable. That’s big stuff for a teeny tiny chef!! She is a great sport, though, and wants to use the tools again and again so she can practice.

Eliana tested out some of her new tools when we made Carrot Cake Muffins with Very Vanilla Frosting.

While using the vegetable peeler was a bit of a challenge, using the vegetable scrubber was fairly easy for her. She has used mine before so she knew how to work it. She also likes to use the silicone spoon for various tasks such as scraping frosting down the sides of the bowl. Eliana isn’t strong enough yet to use the apple peeler and we are excited for summer when melons come back into season and she can use her melon baller! By far, Eliana’s favorite tool from the set is the knife. She has wanted a knife of “her own” for a while. I’ve let her use butter knives but they don’t look like the knives I use and she notices how they are very different. I believe that the fact the chef’s knife from her Curious Chef set looks more like a “real knife” that I use (even though it is plastic) makes Eliana feel like more of a grown up when she uses it.

Over all, Eliana and I are really happy with the tools in the 6-Piece Fruit and Veggie Prep Kit by Curious Chef. Eliana continues to use them in many recipes when we cook together.

Happy Cooking with Curious Chef tools!
